Abstract

A permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machine with rare earth magnet is presented for high machine performance. Its characteristics are studied for an optimized volume of magnets. A novel methodology is presented to improve the effectiveness of PM flux and reduce cogging torque. The machine characteristics are compared with its synchronous reluctance machine and impact of PM flux is also presented. The changes in machine characteristic and performance are analyzed in maximum torque per ampere region.
