Abstract

This paper discusses the development of synchronous reluctance (SYNCREL) drive systems, including sensorless control, and their applications as high performance servo drives. Various sensorless techniques are discussed and reviewed. A new sensorless algorithm for a synchronous reluctance motor drive is also presented. It is a parameters-dependent technique for estimating the rotor position on-line from the measurements of two-phase currents and applied voltages. The position is estimated using the saturated machine d-q model equations.
