Abstract
This chapter considers a number of different forms of direct investing" shares, fixed interest, property, gold and collectibles. The chapter identifies how shares enable investors to be part-owners of a company and to earn returns (dividends and capital gains) when the company is successful and profitable. It also considers the fixed-interest-earning assets available to individuals. In addition, this chapter looks at a number of issues relating to property investment, including direct investment in residential and commercial property, and also discusses investing in tangibles, such as gold, art and other collectables, as a means of wealth creation. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of the various methods of direct investment, along with methods of funding investment, are discussed.
