Abstract
The need to process large amounts of data has led to a wave of developments concerned with the theory and practice of knowledge discovery and machine learning. In particular, social networks and web applications contributed to the explosion of data and an increased need for faster and scalable methods. Similarly, though maybe less obviously, large amounts of data started to play an important role in areas outside the social web.
