Abstract

We propose a web resource relay scheme through personalised secondary firewalls so that web resources within an intranet can be maximally and conveniently accessed via the Internet without at the expense of complicated corporate control or security lapse. The essense of this approach is to maintain the structure of the file system and the web server of each individual host machine within the intranet, and at the same time, make the web resources selectively available in a manner almost undistinguishable to an Internet user subject to successful authentication and authorisation for the personalised firewalls. Individuals on an intranet behind a general corporate firewall may find such a web resource relay immensely useful to cover their sporadic short remote visits without having to modify constantly the firewall policies or adjust the navigational content of the web resources for the access.
