Divining the Aleph

Abstract

This article reflects upon the relationship between reading and writing and the experience of knowing the world. To find meaning, to make connections and find knowledge, in something which another experiences very differently, could be seen in many ways. It could be seen as bluff, it could be seen as trickery, even conspiracy, but once it is accepted that meaning is there to be found and that there are means whereby that meaning can be found, it is inevitable that other questions will be asked. It concludes that the translation from experience to explanation presents all sorts of difficulties. It is the authorââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s feeling that if the story is to be found, which means in effect if its significance is to be felt, it is to be found phenomenologically: in the body, in the transforming process of realizing meaning in experience. The actual words are no more than conduits.
