    Abstract

Researching business innovation networks is problematic. It is difficult to secure cooperation for such research and even with cooperation it is not easy to secure data required to understand these complex systems. This paper demonstrates an approach to understanding such complex adaptive systems using simulation and fuzzy sets (FS) "” in short an alternative to the deductive and inductive modes of 'doing science'. We superimpose simulation on FS to build a model of innovation networks. The model shows how network links, bonds and ties impact on innovation performance, the data from which can be used for theory building.
