Abstract

This paper presents the modal parameters of a LVL timber flooring system with overall dimensions of 8.4 x 1.8m acquired from its finite element (FE) model. The FE model of the floor was created by joining three identical models of a timber floor module (beam) side by side rigidly. The overall length of each floor module was 8.4m and width of top flange was 0.6 m. The individual modules were tested under application of impact load using modal hammer under identical pin-roller boundary conditions. The calibrated FE model of the module was extended to model the flooring system. The behaviour of the floor is assessed based on the modal parameters. Results from the FE model will be correlated with results from experimental tests to be conducted in near future on the floor with the given dimensions at University of Technology Sydney.
