Abstract
An exploratory study is made of the possible application of Tuned Liquid Column Dampers (TLCD) as an energy dissipating device to reduce the response of tall buildings and other structures subjected to seismic loads. It is found that TLCD systems are capable of reducing the structure response with a relatively small mass and can achieve the same response reduction levels as those by traditional Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) systems with only half the mass. TLCD system offers several advantages including simplicity and easy tuning and retuning to natural period of the structure.
