Abstract

![CDATA[The East House reconfigures an existing 1990s brick house to create a modern beachside residence with a very strong relationship to the coastal environment in which it is situated at Australia's most easterly point. Primary motivations of the project included employing passive solar design principles to achieve year-round comfort and energy performance, as well as establishing a home of rich experiential quality. Interlocking spatial ribbons realized via internal joinery, timber screening, and a thermal mass wall are deployed to create a series of overlapping, extensive spatial zones.]]
