Abstract

In light of what was arguably the most widely debated sports medicine/science topic outside of actual match play this World Cup, the editorial team at JSAMS felt the need to weigh into the discussion of hydration and/or cooling breaks (the exact description seemingly evolving over the course of the tournament). As anyone who follows the game knows, FIFA implemented mandatory 3-min “hydration” breaks midway through each half of every match in what was described as player welfare measure.
