    Abstract

In this special edition of the International Journal of Employment Studies on employment relations in today’s India, several major contemporary issues common to both developed and developing economies are addressed. These include: the long-term impact of neoliberal policies on wages, conditions and job security; the precarious situations of marginal workers; the consequences for wages of export-driven economic strategies; and the changing face of public sector employment. The papers illustrate how these issues present particular challenges in the distinctively complex, diverse Indian context.
