Abstract
Truss supporting (TS) is a technique to support a building frame during the replacement of column when its stiffness reduces due to any kind of damage. This paper deals about the effectiveness of TS during replacement of damaged column in a high-rise frame structure building. For the case study of the effectiveness of TS, each of six columns was considered as a damaged column at different positions in the ground and first floors. Four types of effective truss supporting models were modelled to transfer the damaged column load to the lower column just below the damaged column. To evaluate the effectiveness of truss supporting model, the numerical analysis of the 2-D frame was carried out using finite element software STAAD Pro 2004. Effectiveness of truss supporting model was confirmed by comparing the deflection, axial force, shear force and bending moment of the beam and column within undamaged column condition, damaged column condition and damaged column with truss supporting condition. The analyzed result shows that at truss supporting condition, the deflection, axial force, shear force and bending moment of the beam and column of the 2-D frame building were obtained almost same as their design values.
