Effects of manufacturing methods on the buckling and postbuckling strength of thin skinned carbon fibre composite panels

Research output: Chapter in Book / Conference PaperConference Paperpeer-review

    Abstract

This paper reports on initial investigations into the manufacturing and testing of Stiffened Carbon Fibre Composite Panels for buckling and postbuckling strength. Five panels were manufactured using different manufacturing techniques and a full description of these panels is given. All panels were tested to failure in an INSTRON compression testing machine. Buckling mode shapes were observed through the use of the Shadow Moire Fringe technique and strain measurements were obtained using resistive strain gauges. Linear finite element analysis was also carried out to compare predicted buckling loads with experimental results.
