    Abstract

![CDATA[It has been shown that space-time block coded (STBC) systems approach the capacity of multiple-input multiple-output wireless channels. The key feature of STBC is that it can achieve full transmit diversity specified by the number of transmit antennas while allowing very simple maximum likelihood decoding. The relatively simple decoding structure of STBC makes it a very attractive transmit diversity technique which has been included in various wireless communication standards. Although the theoretical performance of STBC has been evaluated in the literature, efficient modeling of STBC in more complex systems would be necessary to investigate the actual performance. In this paper, we illustrate the use of importance sampling technique for estimating the performance of orthogonal space-time block coded systems. In particular, we show how to bias the Rayleigh and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) processes using the variance scaling and mean translation methods, respectively, in order to maximize the computational efficiency.]]
