    Abstract

![CDATA[In this paper, we propose a method to enhance the application of importance sampling (IS) technique for efficient simulation of Viterbi decoded terminated convolutional codes. The proposed method exploits the weight enumerators of terminated convolutional codes to enhance the performance of the IS technique known as error event simulation (EES). The essence of the proposed technique is to simulate a lesser number of error events than EES and weight the event error probabilities using the coefficients of weight enumerator for terminated convolutional codes. We compare the new efficiency gains with the gains obtained from EES in terms of variance reduction and time saving and show an improved efficiency gain for additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels.]]
