Abstract
Starting from a philosophy of hearing rather than one of
vision greatly changes how one understands the experience
of the individual in the world. This paper focuses on the
participatory act of listening, examining listener immersion,
entrainment, habituation, expectation, and memory. These
physiological components of human listening are investigated
as a means to better understand the temporal listening ex-
perience of an audience. Additionally, tools for improving
how one might engage with the temporal experience of a
listener are also presented.
