Abstract

As Australians, we will concentrate more on employment and retirement in our own country but will draw on international research and policy as appropriate. Retirement-withdrawal from paid work-is a major life transition for all workers, so we begin by briefly examining contemporary retirement research involving the general community to provide a context within which to understand the situation for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
