Abstract

Since the sustainable tourism literature regards empowerment in a form of social framework as a key end goal of CBET (Foucat 2002; Gui et al. 2004; Laverack and Thangphet 2009; Reimer and Walter 2013), this chapter investigates the journey of intra-community participation and its connection to community empowerment in rural Thailand where local people are seen as uneducated and having limited voices and knowledge in relation to ecotourism management and operation.
