Abstract
The FYA initiative was developed as part of a strategic whole-of-institution approach to enhancing the first-year student experience in the face of spiralling attrition rates, major changes to government funding and widening participation rates. The FYA coodinator role was developed alongside the FYA role as a means of supporting and growing FYAs beyond a pastoral-care function to a motivated network of staff engaged in refglective, evidence-based practice (Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SOLT) willing to take on active leadership roles within the university.
