Research output: Chapter in Book / Conference PaperChapter

Abstract

This chapter will critically reflect on the opportunities and challenges associated with implementing environmental management strategies, initiatives and approaches in tourism, hospitality and events (THE) facilities. Particular emphasis will be placed on the following sub-themes: The extent to which (how and why) human activities are placing pressure on the environment; Individual and organizational responsibility in relation to reductions in environmental impacts; How environmental sustainability can be best managed and regulated in THE-related sectors. In addition, reference will be made to contemporary studies in THE environments, and case studies will be presented to illustrate the relevant areas of environmental management. These cases will then be extended in the form of simulations for students to reflect on, discuss and elaborate, and provide implications, suggestions/recommendations from a contemporary managerial perspective.
