Evaluation of Home Fire Safety Checks Program for Fire Rescue NSW: Final Report

Abstract

The Home Fire Safety Checks (HFSC) program being undertaken by Fire Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW) has the aim of engaging and educating at risk groups to prevent and prepare for fires. The HFSC involves staged home visitations aimed to ensure that all homes have at least one working smoke alarm and to increase awareness of home fire safety. The HFSC program was delivered in 2015 with the first deployment on the 22nd February 2015 and the last recorded was on 8th December 2015. The program was delivered by stations with the data on captured by the app survey. In that period of time, 1,203 houses were door knocked with 79% had survey status of complete and another 9% incomplete. Deployments were undertaken in 74 suburbs, with the number of houses visited ranged from 1 to 177. For 36 suburbs, they had 1 house visited and another 6 suburbs had 2 houses visited.
