Abstract
![CDATA[This study examined the dimensionality, reliability, and validity of De Geus et al.’s (2016) Event Experience Scale (EES) in the context of sporting events. Additionally, the scale was used to profile the event experience of 139 participants of the New Zealand Masters Games (NZMG) 2016 through on-site surveys. Employing exploratory factor analysis, the study found the EES to consist of four dimensions: affective engagement, cognitive engagement, physical engagement, and experiencing newness, which was similar to De Geus et al.’s (2016) findings. Thus, the dimensionality, reliability, and validity of the EES was supported in the context of sporting events, enhancing the scale as a useful tool in measuring experience across a range of different events. Additionally, it was found that sporting event participants mainly experienced physical engagement, followed by affective engagement, cognitive engagement, and experiencing newness. Furthermore, female participants were significantly more cognitively engaged than males at the event.]]
