Abstract

In this chapter, we have focused on exploring and integrating the current state of music therapy education and practices around interprofessional teaching in terms of pedagogy and practice, leading to an innovative framework for interprofessional teaching in music therapy, through which we aim to support music therapy educators in addressing an obvious area of teaching practice which has received little attention in the literature to date. Further, we provide a checklist for educators (see Checklist for Educating about Interprofessional Practice in Music Therapy) to support their own reflective educational practices and assist with ways that they can incorporate interprofessional practice for/with their students. In doing so, we aim to encourage both music therapy educators and their students, and in turn their associated organizations and service providers, towards improved interprofessional care practices in addressing the needs of clients and the community for collaborative growth and recovery.
