Abstract

Since the end of the 20th century, there has been a constant stream of newly emerging infectious and an increasing occurrence of pandemic threats to global health. Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are the major causes of mortality, and the recent COVID-19 outbreak kills millions of people worldwide. Literature reveals regional differences in the prevalence and mortality of EIDs. This study aims to identify the spatial distribution of COVID-19 based on prevalence and mortality and explore environmental factors' effects of the disease. Moreover, the study identifies the hotspots of COVID-19 according to geographical location. The study is conducted based on the secondary data collected from the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, covering 2020 and 2021.
