Abstract

Laser scanning technology (LST) is a contactless measurement method with recognized advantages, and it has changed the way smart construction (SC) is measured. However, existing literature lacks a comprehensive summary of the problems of applying LST in SC, hindering its widespread diffusion. This study reviews 264 papers by using bibliometric and scientometric analyses in addressing this issue. The key themes in the applications of LST in SC are identified, and a qualitative discussion of current research issues and challenges are provided. In addition, the changes that LST has brought to SC and the barriers that exist are discussed. Future research directions are explored to help researchers gain insights into the topic. This study provides new ideas for academic researchers and related practitioners by reviewing the literature on the application of LST in SC, promoting the development and application of LST in modern SC.
