Abstract

Depending on the interest, skills and motivation of both teacher and students, students of drama can script, storyboard, record, digitally edit their material with special effects and then play it back on the computer screen, view it on a television monitor, or upload it onto the World Wide Web. A purposely recorded narrative drama that can be viewed on a small-screen is known as screen drama. Also called small-screen or video-drama, this drama form is a convergence of digital technology and arts learning: visual arts, design, music, drama and film. It is a postmodernist response to the images bombarding our world. Deconstructing screen drama and mediated images is as much a part of the drama journey as production, and as educators, we can facilitate an environment where the students feel confident as both artist and viewer when negotiating their own imaginative screen meanings.
