Abstract
Libraries collect, store and organise information and make it readily accessible for use. Libraries can also direct users to other profession-specific repositories of information. Hard-copy materials within the library are organised using a classification system and located by searching the catalogues. Electronic data is accessed using databases or, in some cases, via a library catalogue. Successful searches for information about a particular topic demand certain skills. These include the ability to define the topic of interest, select appropriate electronic search tools and conduct a basic search of databases and the catalogue system to identify and access the information required.
