Abstract

This research presents the experimental investigation on beam-to-column flush end plate connections utilising blind bolts. The test results were used to establish the load-displacement characteristics of the connections under the both static and cyclic loading conditions. The finite element modelling results were compared with the experimental results. The finite element models showed that they were in good agreement with the experimental results. From the results gained, it can be concluded that the improved design has enhanced the performance over the previous experiment for both loading conditions. However, the connection failure still plays a major role in high rise buildings when they are subjected to earthquake in a 1:2500 year return period.
