Abstract
This paper outlines the development of a framework for the development of an assessment tool for organisations to assess then improve their cultural capacity in providing culturally safe, inclusive and disability rights informed disability services to First Nations people with disability.
First Peoples Disability Network (FPDN) were funded by the Department of Social Services to design an assessment framework that could be used by non-Indigenous service organisation to assess their cultural capacity to deliver services to First Nations peoples with disability. Following this engagement, FPDN commissioned a team of researchers at Western Sydney University to: undertake a systemic review of evidence, research and policy of cultural competency frameworks; and to create a principle based framework from which and organisational assessment tool could be constructed. It was anticipated the project would also include testing of the tool with a range of stakeholders in preparation for dissemination of the tool.
