Abstract

![CDATA[This paper presents a study on first year university students who often lack in motivation and discontinue studies or show poor performance. It presents how students in early years of university studies face difficulties in selection of courses, friends, and interaction with lecturers and other university related aspects. It has been found that lecturers and tutors have a larger role to play to connect with students and also senior high school students may need training/seminars to understand university life to reduce the rate of drop-out and unexpected examination results. This preliminary study should be extended to a larger sample size to confirm its findings.]]
