N2 - Floating life has been catapulted into the spotlight by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. The ability of the SARS-COV-2 virus to remain aloft in air demonstrates the ‘thing power’ (Bennett 2010) of this viral matter. Its floating credentials of airborne transmission have become embroiled in global policies of mask wearing, heated discussions around ventilation systems and air changes in hotel quarantine, calls to reduce patron numbers in public venues and, at their most extreme, the enactment of stay-at-home orders.
