FotoFriendship 2022

Research output: Creative WorksExhibition

Abstract

This work is an ongoing community arts project linking high school students in Greater Western Sydney and Timor-Leste. Running annually, this work is part of an ongoing project that was founded in 2014. Each year a different group of high school students in Australia and internationally are invited to participate. Under Tammy's and my mentorship, participants are taught photographic skills and visual and written storytelling mediums and techniques. Each young person creates and selects his or her own series of photographs which is complimented with a paragraph of related text. The work explores photo-storytelling as a form of collaborative visual ethnography exploring questions of personal and cultural identity. Each year the additional work is added to a central website featuring curated online galleries building a continuous body of new work. In 2022 participating schools included Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School, Sydney and Cisarua Refugee Learning Centre (CRLC) Cisarua, Java, Indonesia.
