    Abstract

![CDATA[The nature and scope of human resource management (HRM) related to managing people in at least one country other than the organisation's 'home country' has varied over time. Originally titled 'expatriate management', it focused on the management of expatriates stationed in a foreign country for a period of years. With the advent of multinational organisations needing to practise HRM concurrently in multiple jurisdictions, the focus broadened to become 'international HRM'. The revolution in communications and transportation technology, the increasing globalisation of the economy and the concurrent emergence of global industries and organisations, have major implications for HR practice, research and teaching. They justify the increasing use of the term 'global HRM' to depict the contemporary nature of this field.]]
