Abstract

There are often no solutions that are completely devoid of violence. The effort to minimize inflicted violence and the refusal to sacrifice others might result in an increase of suffered violence. Yet, this is the journey of conversion. In Girard's view, the miraculous gift of the truth of the victim is offered to us. Only through the acceptance of that gift we can undertake the journey of conversion. Then, when the obscurity of desire and violence becomes transparent, we can finally define who we are"”by doing better. A life of continuing conversion is a life lived in the belief that "doing better" actually matters.
