Abstract
These two books address issues which have become familiar over recent decades: the spread of insecure employment, increasing income inequality, the erosion of unionization and working conditions, intensified work-life pressures and the dismantling of public capacity to achieve more equal and equitable societies. They do so in often creative ways, exploring possibilities for the regeneration of a broadly progressive agenda across a range of policy and legislative areas, including labour law, taxation, welfare, housing and immigration. Together, they offer a set of promising alternatives to the perpetuation of insecure employment, income inequality and social fragmentation. While they concentrate on the USA and the UK, the issues raised and the strategies developed are relevant for other developed nations in the era of neoliberal globalization.
