Abstract

Over the past two decades, there has been a noticeable transformation of the Malaysian economy. Rapid and sustained economic growth has been accompanied by: falling poverty, falling unemployment, improved human development and low inflation. Specifically, an integration of the Malaysian economy with the rest of the world through inward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and trade has played a key role in transforming Malaysia from a resource-based economy to one that participates in high-skilled and technology-intensive sectors in the global markets.
