    Abstract

Mentoring is not confined to one type or form of relationship and each type of mentoring can have its place in various contexts and different organizations (Haynes and Petrosko, 2009). This chapter seeks to provide some practical insight into a layered approach to informal mentoring by reflecting on the experiences of the authors – a Mentor and Protégé – in the context of a Layered Relationship Mentoring Model. It also considers the place and importance of setting and pursuing goals in the context of the mentoring relationship.
