Abstract

With the problems from global warming, it is clear that controlling greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions is an emerging topic around the world. This situation has led to the consideration and implementation of legislations while forcing companies to implement new and innovative measures and strategies on emissions prevention and reduction. This paper reviews the existing GHG-emission legislations, as well as carbon offset programs worldwide. Detailed analysis on carbon emissions trends related to emissions penalties is explored. Future changes that could be made to the existing programs for enhancing their effectiveness are suggested. For this, major countries emitting GHG and implementing GHG reduction strategies are studied.
