Abstract
This special issue of Global Media Journal" Australian Edition arose from a well-subscribed session at the Australian Anthropological Society Conference in 2012. Our explicit purpose in organising that panel" and this special issue" was to invite scholars to think about and discuss the material communicative basis of social interactions and the ways these shape and are shaped by an always-changing, ever-expanding range of technologies.
