    Abstract

The provision of palliative and end-of-life (EOL) care does not preclude interventions that optimize health, well-being, and functional status even in the presence of incurable illness. The application of the principles and practices of health promotion to palliative and EOL care enhances the health and well-being of individual, families, and communities. Rehabilitation is a valid intervention in advanced disease, promoting optimal function and mitigating deficits in activities of daily living, well-being, and quality of life (QOL). The role of the nurse in rehabilitation is vital in responding to the complex needs of those with advanced disease.
