Hegel's philosophy : ethics, recognition and oppression

    Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

    Abstract

The listing of 259 books at the US Congress Library Online Catalogue indicates the level of influence and popularity of G. F. W. Hegel (1770–1831). This appears to be a fact that has not gone unnoticed. In ‘On Reading Hegel’, Rockmore noted ‘that books on Hegel are currently emerging from the press faster than even the most diligent student can read them’ (2007: 55). This review looks at just four of the recent volumes on Hegel. It includes two general introductions (James and Speight), one book on a special theme of Hegelian philosophy (Pippin) and one book on the application of Hegel’s philosophy of recognition (Anderson).
