Abstract
Over the last several decades, Afghan women have suffered in silence through the country’s wars and civil unrest. After the fall of the Taliban, many believed that the situation for women would transform for the better. However, a new epidemic, stemming from decades of oppression, has been taking its toll on Afghan women across the country. Since 2002, hundreds of women each year have been setting themselves alight as a form of protest to their conditions. Daughters of Ousha investigates the reasons behind this increasing epidemic. In an intimate portrayal of this problem, it takes us inside the hospitals of Kabul and Herat and into women’s lives, seeking a wide range of professional and social opinions about the reasons for this increase, and ways to solve it. Amin Palangi is the director of the film.
