Abstract
Protest music and music itself is woven into social movements, war and demonstrations. In Bangladesh, historically conscious and politically charged songs have played a significant role in different movements directed at inspiring change. Most recently, rap has emerged as an instrument of expression in Bangladesh, influenced by American political hip-hop culture, but tinged with political criticism particular to Bangladesh. This chapter describes and analyses this new phenomenon in Bangladesh.
