Abstract

Hold Down is a single released by Black Box White Cube (Greg Hughes). The track seeks to displace practices of audio production and mastering via the cultural techniques of ‘saturation’ and ‘loudness’. The track features an application of media theory in audio-visual production, concerned with the concept of ‘cultural techniques’ – the operational chains of becoming a medium, or an actor-network that constitutes culture, via the disruption of signals and communication channels.
