Abstract

Hope, courage, and wisdom in education is not in the province of schools alone. The essay that follows demonstrates our collective understanding of the ways in which sport and gender equality can work in the broader community to offer inspiration and learning for individuals, institutions, and the public good. Often, it's difficult to quantify and sustain momentum and change in schools, a mega sports phenomenon like the 2023 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Women's World Cup, offered optimism and a sense of collective achievement to young women who may otherwise have remained on the sporting sidelines. The vignette below takes the reader into a world perhaps they know little about but at its heart the goals of this international football event were not just about winning, entertainment and money" although such targets are certainly part of the story" there is much more to examine.
