Abstract

![CDATA[This conceptual article considers the self-identity of the Lao Piao group – the parents of Chinese immigrants in Australia, born under the one-child policy. The need for scholarship in this area follows: the growing number of these parents who float between their home in China, and that of their child in Australia; as well as the personal and social implications associated with this transient lifestyle. This article posits that the social identity theory and the intergenerational support model might help to clarify the experiences of this population, particularly the personal and social implications. This research can help to inform the development of policies and programs that aim to support this and potentially other floating populations.]]
