HRM and communication : dancing individuals in organisations

    Abstract

    While many human resource managers spend considerable time communicating, the issue of communication is somewhat undervalued in most of the standard literature and research on human resource management. Based on the imperatives of technical-rational systems and the managerial functional traditions of human resource management, the primary occupation of human resource management has been technical and managerial rather than communicative. Since societies and forms of work have moved from manufacturing and mass-production into post-industrial forms, communication has gained significantly in importance. The following non-empirical but normative investigation argues that a critical analysis on how HR managers and the subject of human resource managerial and communicative role of human resource management.
