    Abstract

Animation is a medium strongly identified with the popular culture of early childhood. It has also proved its capacity for catering to the sado-erotic fantasies of an adult-only audience. A marked preoccupation with the thematic of innocence and experience in animation narratives may be partially explained by this polarity in its audience appeal. This in turn has something to do with the contradictory potentialities in the role of the animator, whose relationship with the creature being sketched into an adventure can slide between sentimental playfulness and the most extravagant abuse.
