Abstract
The methanolic extract of Aegle marmelos was tested for its hypoglycemic effect on normal and diabetic rabbit models. Blood glucose levels were determined by Nelson Somogyi's method before and also at 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 hr after oral administration of the extract at doses of 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg body weight and were compared to those obtained with glibenclamide. Significant reduction in blood glucose was observed both in normal and in diabetic rabbits.
